Garden maintenance for a Malaysian garden
Our heat and rain make gardens grow fast, and go wild just as fast. Here's what a garden here needs, and our staff are a message away.

The heaviest rain
The Klang Valley's wettest spells come around the monsoon changeovers, roughly April and October to November. Check that water drains away, and ease off watering.

Dry spells
When it's hot and dry for days, water early in the morning or in the evening, deeply rather than a little every day.

Growth spurts
Rain plus heat means lawns and hedges shoot up. Little and often keeps them in shape without shocking them.
02Maintenance
What a garden needs

Lawns
Mow carpet grass regularly in the wet months and don't cut too short at once. Philippine grass grows slower and needs trimming less.
- 02
Hedges and topiary
Trim regularly to keep the shape. Shaped trees like ours need their shape kept up, or they grow out of it.

Feeding
Rain washes nutrients out of the soil. A slow-release fertiliser every few months keeps plants green.

Pests
Watch for mealybugs and caterpillars, and snails after rain. Caught early, most are easy to deal with.

Pebble gardens
Rake out leaves, hose down now and then, and top up the stones where they've thinned.
- 06
When to replace
Some plants don't recover from a bad spell. Swapping one in time keeps the whole bed looking right.
