“Water every day for the first two weeks unless it rains, and keep off it while the roots take.”

  1. 01

    Light

Full sun for Philippine and Japanese grass. Cow grass copes with some shade, but no lawn grows well in deep shade.
  2. 02

    Water

Every day for the first two weeks, in the morning, unless it rains. After that only in dry spells: rain is usually enough.
  3. 03

    Soil & pot

Level, loosened ground without stones or roots. Lay the pieces close together, press them down firmly and fill the gaps with sand or soil.
  4. 04

    Feeding

A light feed every 2 to 3 months once it has rooted.

Something wrong?

  • Pieces turning yellow or brown in the first weeks

Thirsty, or not touching the ground. Water deeply and press them down firmly.

  • Gaps and bare patches

Fill them with a little sand or soil and keep watering: the grass spreads in. Big gaps need a new piece.

  • Brown after mowing

Cut too short at once. Mow little and often, more often in the rainy months.

  • Thin, pale grass in a shady spot

Not enough sun. Cow grass copes best with part shade; for deep shade, artificial grass is the better choice.
