“Treat it like a succulent: plenty of sun and not much water.”

  1. 01

    Light

Full sun to light shade. It keeps its tidy shape best in a bright, open spot.
  2. 02

    Water

When the soil has dried out. In the ground, rain is usually enough once it has settled. In a pot, about once a week.
  3. 03

    Soil & pot

Fast-draining soil. It must never sit in water: a pot with a hole, or a raised spot in the garden.
  4. 04

    Feeding

A little slow-release fertiliser two or three times a year.

    What you'll need

    • A pot with a drainage hole

All available here at the nursery.

Something wrong?

  • Soft, dark trunk or a head collapsing

Rot from too much water. Let it dry out and cut away soft parts. Plant it where water drains away.

  • Lower leaves turning brown

Normal: old leaves dry off as it grows. Pull them away once they are fully dry.

  • Pale, yellowish leaves

Too little light, or hungry. Move it into more sun and feed it.
